“In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah” (Psalm 76:1–3).
Do you want to know God? Get amongst His people.
During the psalmic era, God was known in Judah, for His name was great in Israel. In our current era, God is known in His church, amongst His people. He dwells among His people. He abides amongst His church, so part of knowing Him is knowing His church.
But why is the knowledge of God found amongst His people? He reveals Himself to us in His Word, but we learn of Him afresh when dealing with His people. As I read the Word, I learn the truth, and as I read your testimony, the Biblical Word comes alive in a fresh way. I read, “if any man be in Christ He is a new creation.” I know this truth within my own heart. But then I hear your story and the words “new creation” find a deeper meaning in my soul. You, my friend, are that new creature in Christ Jesus.
I read “we walk by faith and not by sight.” I imagine what this looks like, but then I hear of your journey of faith and find a fresh definition for the faith walk. You have lived faith. I have heard of your faith. I am blessed.
“There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah” (Psalm 76:3).
Because God has worked amongst us, because the cross of Christ has decimated our foe, God can be known amongst His people. God broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. The cross dismantled them. Our Lion died for us — and rose for us — so we stand in victory. And as we do, to know one another and the stories we have to tell of God’s victory, we get to know God a little better.
