Know God's Name And You'll Run To Him More, Proverbs 18:10

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe." (Proverbs 18:10, ESV).

One day, in need of wisdom regarding a financial decision, I found a friend of mine who is an expert in that realm. After peppering him with questions, I walked away helped. But it was his reputation and nature that made me run to him in the first place.

So it is in our relationship with God. The better we know His attributes, abilities, and reputation, the more we will run to Him. His name — His reputation and character — is a strong tower. All who know Him well run to Him, for His reputation precedes Him.

In a sense, the less you know of God, the less you’ll run to God. To remain ignorant of Him as He reveals Himself in His word is to know little of who He is. But to know Him in His word is to gain an understanding of His name, which will cause Him to become more trustworthy in your mind. To remain ignorant of Him through a consistent refusal to enter into His battles is to know little of who He is. But to know Him and His power as you obey Him is to gain an understanding of His name, which will cause Him to become more trustworthy in your mind. But to grow in the knowledge of Him should lead to a more habitual practice of running to Him.

You see, He isn’t just good at one thing, but thousands of things. When we grow to know this, we grow to come to Him for more. He can help. He desires to help. He is a loving Father to His children. So learn of Him. Sit at His feet. Read His word. Listen to His word taught. Be with strong believers. Obey Him. Stretch your faith and get out of your comfort zone with Him. As you interact with who God is, your understanding of His name will grow, and you’ll find yourself running to Him more than ever.
