7 Ways to Seek God Throughout the Day (Number 28:3-4)

"And you shall say to them, 'This is the food offering that you shall offer to the Lord: two male lambs a year old without blemish, day by day, as a regular offering. The one lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight.'" (Numbers 28:3–4)

Every time I read about the morning and evening sacrifice, I am humbled. Though I've done it imperfectly, for many years, I have sought the Lord in the morning. But the afternoon or evening time of prayer has never been a regular part of my life. I want it to be.

All-day long, I want to break for fellowship and prayer with God. I want to seek His face. In the morning, the day is a blank slate, an opportunity. But, if I continue to seek Him, the entire day is still God's opportunity. Even after failures, God is faithful, and He wants to redeem my time.

If you share a similar heart, here are some suggestions for seeking Him beyond just the morning:

1. Read Psalms

The Psalms are quick and devotional, making them perfect for pitstop throughout the day. It is not difficult to squeeze them into a lunch break, or even a wait in line at the grocery store. Let them help you tune your heart to heaven throughout the day.

2. Five-Minute Prayer Times

If you've read the Bible to start the day, there is likely a verse, phrase, or truth which stuck with you. It can be helpful to follow your morning reading up with a few minutes of prayer about that truth later on in the day. I've known some who will set a reminder to help them rethink over a morning Scripture.

3. End the Day With Prayer

Before sleeping, thank the Lord for the day, confess any sins, pray for those you interacted with, and ask for His grace for tomorrow. If married, join your spouse in closing the day this way. In two minutes, a lot can be accomplished in prayer.

4. Another Bible Bookmark

Have a regular Bible-reading plan, but keeping another bookmark in a completely unrelated place in your Bible is a way to read more Scripture at random moments throughout the week. The narrative and historical sections of the Old and New Testaments are great for this type of reading. The Bible is a good book! Let's read it.

5. Mini Prayer Meetings

If you keep a prayer list, you are at an advantage with this one. Pull it out, and look it over. Silently bring a cluster of requests, people, or ministries to the Lord. In just a few minutes, from your cubicle or car, you can travel the world in prayer.

6. Meditate on a Proverb

Open up your Bible (or Bible app) to the chapter in Proverbs corresponding to today's date (September 22 = Proverbs 22). Choose one verse at random. Think about that singular proverb for a couple of minutes. Ask the Lord how the wisdom found there applies to your life today.

7. Receive or Send a Prayer Request

The altar of prayer is entirely available to modern Christians. We are allowed to enter into God's presence, anytime, because of the blood of Jesus. So reaching out and asking for a prayer request from a friend, or giving one to a friend, is a great way to seek the Lord throughout the day.
