What Happens When Your Work Goes Sideways?
In Genesis chapter 11, the citizens of Babel said, “Come let us build a tower to make a name for ourselves.”
You see when you go to work to build a name for God, whether it’s through your character or the things your company is building and working on it and it doesn’t just have to be nonprofit charitable kinds of work. No, it can be good things that you are producing for your community, goods services that you were offering for your world, but when you do it for your own name, for your own vanity, you’ve ruined work.

I must start today's teaching by reminding you of our place in the gospel of Mark. Mark had begun his book by revealing Jesus' identity: he is the Christ, the Son of God (Mark 1:1). And in the first eight chapters of his gospel, Mark shows us the beauty of Jesus' life. No one in the book had confessed Jesus to be the Christ, the long-awaited Messiah, the descendant of David, who would vanquish Israel's enemies and bring in an everlasting kingdom.

I had a conversation with a youth pastor from another church. “What are teenagers going through right now?” I asked. He proceeded to tell me he saw them as a generation whose world was very small, that even though they are digitally connected, many of them have no idea what is happening in the world around them. The only world they know is the world of the friends and networks they have cultivated, many of them online. In other words, he saw their digital connections making their world smaller, not bigger.
